About the product

The InsuLogix® G2 acetylene, hydrogen, and moisture monitor combines early detection of incipient faults with critical fault detection in power transformers by measuring the presence of two key gases, hydrogen and acetylene, as well as moisture.

The single valve design uses state-of-the-art, self-calibrating laser sensor technology to detect acetylene (C2H2) gas as low as 0.5 ppm, providing an early indication of a critical fault condition within your asset. This allows for a confident, rapid response that is key to saving your transformers and preventing costly unplanned outages.

An intuitive, locally hosted web server user interface eliminates the need for extensive training to use the device, lowering labour costs and providing an efficient user experience for all authorised personnel.

Can the device be installed by a transformer manufacturer and configured prior to the transformer being installed and commissioned in the field?

Yes, the InsuLogix G2 can be installed and configured by OEMs using the locally hosted web server UI. Check with your transformer manufacturer on availability of service for them to perform device configuration.

Are there any ongoing maintenance or calibration requirements for the device once installed?

The InsuLogix G2 is designed to be a low cost of ownership device and therefore does not require any ongoing preventative maintenance.

How long does it take to install the device?

Typical installation can be completed in 2 hours. This includes mounting, wiring, and initial configuration.

Are the measurements from the device impacted by pollutants in older transformer oil?

The impact of pollutants in transformer oil has minimal impact on the device readings.

What is the standard warranty period?

The standard warranty is 2 years. Additional years of extended warranty may be purchased at time of order with a maximum warranty of 5 years total.

Can the configuration of the unit be updated remotely via the device software?

Yes, settings of the InsuLogix G2 can be updated remotely, provided the user’s computer is connected to the same network as the monitor.

What are the available communication protocols?

Does a pump/mechanical device need to be installed to create oil circulation?

A pump is not required to create oil circulation. The design and temperature control of the manifold promotes sufficient oil flow through convection to provide proper measurement results.

Where should the unit be installed on the transformer? A

Ideally, it should be installed on a radiator return valve or near the return connection to the tank where natural oil flow is present. If this is not possible, the monitor can be installed on a drain valve in any location on the transformer as the design of the Gas Extraction Manifold (GEM) promotes oil flow through convection.

Can the unit be installed on a single transformer valve without additional supporting infrastructure?

Yes, weighing in at 13.5 kg (~30 lb.), the InsuLogix G2 is designed to be installed on a single 38mm (1.5”) valve. The monitor has a 1.5” MNPT fitting for connection to the transformer valve and comes standard with a 1.5” NPT union fitting.

What software is provided with the device? Can the unit be used as a standalone system, or does it require connection to SCADA?

The software (user interface) uses a web server which is locally hosted on the InsuLogix G2. It does not require any interaction with the web and is intended to be buried behind the customer’s corporate firewall. Access to the user interface is achieved by entering the unit’s IP address into the navigation bar of Chrome or MS Edge. Any changes to the system or user interface software will not affect the compatibility of the system with these web browsers.
