Configuring an Inrush Test
Current inrush testing is a common test that can be performed on transformers, motors and other equipment. This document shall describe how to configure the MPQ Analyzer to perform an inrush test. The MPQ Analyzer can record the voltage, current, active power, reactive power, apparent power, power factor and energy for every cycle for every active channel/phase, before and after the inrush. The MPQ Analyzer will also capture the inrush waveform for up to 10 seconds on each active channel.

Total Demand Distortion (TDD)
Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is a common method used to measure the level of waveform distortion.Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) measurements are an effective method of evaluating voltage distortion. However THD can be misleading when evaluating current distortion. THD is the summation of the harmonics presented as a percentage of the fundamental. For voltage THD this will be the summation of the voltage harmonics compared to the fundamental voltage. In a non-faulted condition voltage will always be present so a proper reference always exists.

MPQ2000 Monitoring a TT grounded system
Measuring the voltage between the ground and neutral provides an indication of the integrity of the ground connection. The poorer the connection (higher impedance), the higher the voltage between the neutral and ground conductors will be. During a fault, this level could rise over 50 V and become a serious hazard.

Merging MPQ Data Files
Adding, removing or changing a piece of equipment in a facility can have significant impacts on the power quality and energy requirements. Introduced power quality phenomenon can cause equipment to trip off line. This can represent significant losses in revenue. Added equipment can create high peak loads or increased reactive currents that can lead to penalties. In order to determine the impact of these changes a power quality and demand study should be performed prior to the change and after the change.
